赤岩山 Mt. Akaiwa
最近、天気がよくって、梅雨の雨と夏の霞が来る前に１回赤岩山に登りたいと思っていました。ああいうところに行くと勿論クマのことも考えます。ちょうどその時、朝８時半ごろ宮津市から下記のメールが来ました。

The weather has been really nice recently. So I had been thinking that I'd like to climb Mt. Akaiwa one time before the rains of the rainy season sets in and the haze of summer comes. Of course, when I go to a place like that, I always think about bears as well. Then, exactly at that time, I got the mail below from Miyazu City at around 8:30 a.m.

Eh! Is that an omen!? It's a little unnerving. But, I want to go! So I will!

登山道に入って、急に近くに知らない鳥の鳴き声が聞こえました。面白い鳴き声です。ちょっと探して、その鳥を見つけました。２つがいるのでメスとオスでしょう。ちょっと騒いでいるから、近くに巣があるでしょう。大きさは中です。全長が２９センチになるそうです。嬉しい！見たことがないものを見つけました。
After entering the hiking track, I suddenly heard a bird that I had no idea what it was. It was quite an interesting sound. I had a little search for it and found it. There were 2 of them, so they were probably a male and female. They seemed a little agitated, so I guess they had a nest nearby. It was a medium sized bird. Apparently they grow to about 29 cm in length. I'm really happy that I found something I'd never seen before.

さあ！今回の謎。これは何という鳥でしょうか。 Right! That brings us to this time's puzzle. What is this bird?
 ヨタカです。 It's a grey nightjar. |  主に夜行性で、「キョッ キョッ キョッ キョッ キョッ・・・」と早口で続ける大きな高い声で鳴きます。動画に聞こえます。 It's mainly a nocturnal bird who's song is high pitched and quite fast . You can hear it in the video. |

 この古道を上りました。 I climbed up an ancient path. |  尾根に到着。ここから歩きやすくなります。 I made it to the top ridge. It's much easier to walk from here. |

 面白い岩がたくさんある山頂です。 It has a lot of interesting rock formations on top of it. |  宮津側を見ながら、休憩ができる場所。絶景ポイントです。 A place where you can rest while enjoying the view of the Miyazu side of the mountain. It's a pretty good view too. |
宮津側。丹後半島、天橋立、栗田半島など見えます。 The Miyazu side. You can see Tango Peninsula, Amanohashidate, Kunda Peninsula, etc.
 先日、MKさんと一緒にに行った鉄塔です。あそこからの鉄塔はどこにあるかと見たかったです。作業道があるかな？ The pylon where I went the other day with MK. I wanted to see where the pylons went from there. I wonder if there is a worker's track along there. |  何もない所です.....でも作業道が必要でしょうか。 There is nothing in that area. But surely they need a worker's track to them. |
宇野ヶ岳と赤岩山の間にいつも蝶蝶が多いです。 There are always lots of butterflies between Mt. Uno-ga-take and Mt. Akaiwa.
 初めてこの虫を見ました。黒と黄色の虫で、綺麗な色でした。 I saw this insect for the first time. It was black and yellow and looked quite good. |  カミキリムシ科のヘリグロリンゴカミキリだと思います。 I think it's called a 'heriguroringokamikiri' and is a type of longhorn beetle. |
ということで、MTBライドとトレッキングで赤岩山に登りました。途中、見たことがないものをみて、山頂でウグイスを聞きながら、絶景を楽しんで美味しいものを食べました。とてもいい時間を過ごしましたが、しんどかった！へとへとに疲れました。林道から尾根まで歩くだけで大変です。MKさん、どうやって尾根までMTBを持って行ったでしょう!?あれは本当にクレージーでした。(そのアドベンチャーのため、下記のリンクをクリックしてください。)
To sum things up, I climbed Mt. Akaiwa by MTB and trekking. On the way I saw things I'd never seen before and from the summit I enjoyed the great view and my lunch while listening to bush warblers sing. It was a most enjoyable outing, but I was dead beat. Absolutely worn out! Just walking up to the ridge from the forest road is hard going as it is. I don't know how MK and I took our MTBs up there that time. That was really CRAZY.
