西喜多林道 West Kita Forest Road
With the typhoon that was downgraded to a tropical depression approaching today the wind is a little strong. So I decide to go for a quick ride up a nearby mountain trail which I haven't been on for probably over 5 years.
台風15号が熱帯低気圧に格下げされて、夕方前ごろにこの辺に近づくそうです。その関係で風がちょっと強い日ですので、近くにある林道に行きたいです。多分５年以上行っていないですが久しぶりに西喜多林道に向かいます。1時間ぐらいのライドになると思うので、今回ハイドレーションパックなしで、ウォーターボトルだけ持っていきます。

 以前に来た時と比べて大分変ったみたい。土砂災害対策ダムが沢山作られたようです。 |  It looks like it is quite different compared to the previous times I came up here. It appears quite a few landslide disaster prevention dams have been built. |

↑ 手入れのされていない農場。この林道にきれいな棚田があった記憶があります。もしかして、こういう風になっています。がっかり！ An untended farm. I remember a picturesque terraced rice field up here. I wonder if this is it. Disappointing!

棚田。よかった!記憶している場所は先ほど見た農場ではなくて、ここです。きれいですね。Terraced rice fields. Fortunately, the place I remember wasn't the untended fields I just passed but it was here.

大きな岩がいくつあります。いい感じ。A few large rocks. A nice spot.
ほら！素晴らしい所でしょう。春から秋までの田圃が好きです。最初は水を入れた田圃が周りを大きな鏡のように反射します。そして、稲がちょっと成長した後のきれいな緑が草原のように見えます。最後に収穫の前にきれいなゴールデンな色になります。収穫された後の田圃が綺麗ではないですが雪の田圃がとてもきれいです。 Look! What a fantastic sight. I really like the way the rice fields change from spring to autumn. First the water-filled rice fields reflect their surroundings like a giant mirror. Then after the rice plants have grown a little, they resemble fields of green grass. Finally, just before harvesting, they turn a beautiful golden color. After harvest, the fields don't look very good, but the snow covered rice fields in winter look beautiful.

大浦半島が見えてきた。Oura Peninsula has come into view.
1時間ぐらいの早いライドするつもりでしたが…やっぱり、マウンテンバイクに乗ってカメラを持っていくと私の大好きな観察ライドになってしまう可能性が高いですね。この林道の最後まで行きたいですがしんどいです。めちゃしんどいです。蒸し暑いし水がなくなりました。お腹が我慢できないほどすいているし体の燃料を持ってきていません。どうしょう？やっぱり帰ったほうが安全ですのでまたべつの時に来ます。I planned on just going for a quick 1 hour ride, but when I jump on my MTB with camera in hand, there is always a high likelihood that I will start exploring and taking photos. That's just what happened. I really wanted to go to the end of this forest road, but I'm really tired. I mean I'm REALLY tired. It's hot & humid and I have run out of water. On top of that, I'm unbearably hungry and have brought no fuel for my body. What to do? Safety first. I'll go home and come back another day.
