徳島県(雨乞の滝)　Tokushima Prefecture (Amagoi Falls)

From the carpark, you walk up along Konedani River for about 20 minutes to the Amagoi Falls. It's a very pleasant walk up through the forest with several named waterfalls along the way, interesting rock formations and birds singing over the roar of the water.
駐車場から雨乞の滝まで高根谷川に沿って上って、約20分かかります。途中、名付けられた滝がいくつかあり、面白い岩の形があり、水の音に混じって鳥がさえずり、とても気持ちの良い森の中の登山道です。

Eh! It's a tanuki (raccoon dog)! Is there such a thing as a tanuki Jizo!?　えっ！タヌキだ！タヌキ地蔵なんてあるですか？

もみじ滝　Momiji Falls

What's this strange creature sitting smack in the middle of the path?　道のど真ん中にちょこんと座っている奇妙な生き物は何だろう？

悪魔なのか？ Is it a demon!?

Is this a leg or arm!?　これは脚なのか腕なのか!?

It's a toad! It's the first time I've seen one of these, so I was pretty chuffed. Although it took me a moment to figure out what it was. As, at first I was just fixated on its big evil-looking face staring at me. These things are rather big!
ヒキガエルなんすよ! 初めて見たので、嬉しかった。でも、それが何なのか理解するのに時間がかかった。最初は大きな悪そうな顔だけに注目していた。ヒキガエルはかなり大きい！

観音滝　Kannon Falls

Amagoi Falls (Amagoi means 'pray for rain')
These falls are dedicated to the Dragon King God and to the deity Fudo. When the weather was dry, the villagers used to beat gongs and drums and perform a dance to pray for rain. The intermittent waterfall on the right is 'Medaki', the female waterfall and the one on the right is 'Otaki', the male waterfall. As one of the 12 great waterfalls in Awa, the amount of water is large throughout the four seasons, and it is chilly even in summer.

Amagoi Falls are straight ahead, hidden behind that rock　雨乞の滝が真正面にあります。あの岩の後ろに隠れています。

The path continues to the right and leads to Higan-ji Temple, which is 1.1 km away. I, however, returned to my car. 右側に悲願時に行く道があります。悲願時まで1.1kmです。しかし、私は車に戻りました。

This is the Amagoi Falls. On the left is the 27 meter high male waterfall (Otaki) and on the right is the 45 meter high female waterfall (Medaki). The female waterfall is 3 tiered, with both waterfalls cascading into a single basin.　雨乞の滝です。左側は高さ27メートルの雄滝で、右側は高さ45メートルの雌滝です。雌滝は3段の滝で、両方の滝が一つの滝壺に落ちます。
