畑から成相山へ From Hata to Mt. Nariai

去年11月に成相山に行ったとき、「畑」の方向に行く林道を見つけました。しかし途中、道の上に植物が生い茂っていましたので諦めました。そのとき、冬の間にその植物が枯れるかも知れないと思いました。だからもう一度春に行きたいと思いました。今日は行きます。日置から成相山に登りたいですが、今度、上る途中に畑という村の周辺を探検したいと思っています。
Last November, when I went up Mt. Nairai, I found a forest road that headed in the direction of 'Hata'. However, along the way, I came across a wall of plants where the road was overgrown. So I gave up. I thought that maybe those plants would die through the winter and I could come back and find out where the road goes in spring. That's where I'm heading today. This time I plan to go up Mt. Nariai from Hioki, and along the way, I want to explore around a village called Hata.

[ Japanese Spicebush ] I guess

青大将 Japanese Rat Snake (Aodaisho or Blue General). This is the most common snake in Japan and can reach 2 meters or more. It's non-venomous. この写真はすごくない?何で背景が黒くなったかわかりませんが大満足です。 How about this for a photo? I'm not sure why the background is black, but I'm pretty chuffed with this photo.

結構長いよ。140センチぐらい。 This one is quite long. About 140 cm long.

畑まで来ました。山道路の行き止まりにある村です。忍者かラスト侍が出てきそうな場所です。 I've come to Hata. It's a village deep in the mountains at the end of a dead end road. The sort of location you might expect to see a 'ninja' or 'the last samurai' to come out of.

5月と9月の間、ここをもう一度見たいです。 I want to see here again sometime between May & September

見に行きます。 I'll go and see.

大分山の中に上って行く道です。

山の中にある農園です。 It's a farm in the middle of nowhere.

もしかしてこの林道が成相山にいくでしょう。偶然に見つけたかも知れません。

This forest road might lead to Mt. Nariai. Maybe I found it by pure chance.

ウワー!!!何これ？でも、行きたい！知りたい！ Wow!!! What's this? But, I want to go! I want to know!

ずっと使われていませんよね。 It hasn't been used for a long long time.

飛行機ですか。いいえ、私の荷物です。 Is it a plane? No, it's my luggage.

マジに疲れてる。これは道ですか。わからなくなっています。しかし、戻りたくないです。 I'm knackered. Is this a road? I don't know anymore. But I don't want to go back.

やっと出ました。去年の11月に反対方向からここまで来ました。 At last, I emerge from the undergrowth. This is where I came to last November, all be it, from the opposite direction.

成相山パノラマ展望台。素晴らしい!!! Mt. Nariai Panorama Lookout. Amazing!!!

腹減った!!!ランチタイム。ホームメイドサンドイッチ「レタス、シーチキン、とまと、チーズ」美味い!!! I'm famished!!! Lunch time. Lettuce, tuna, tomato & cheese home-made sandwiches. That hit the spot!!!

上り続けてきましたよ。今回男山を通って帰ります。道が崩れています。 I continued climbing up. This time, I will return through Otokoyama. There's been a landslide on this part of the road.

今回右を曲がって初めての道で帰ってみることにしました。この辺が面白そうです。五十河（いかが）というところです。またいつかにここに戻ってきて探検したいですわ。今日は疲れ果てています。 I decided to return by a route I'd never traveled before so took a right. This place looks really interesting. It's called 'Ikaga'. I want to come back here some time and explore. However, I'm exhausted today.

この辺に教会があるのがおかしいなぁと思いました。しかし、教会ではありません。下の写真に情報が書いてあります。 I thought it would be a bit strange having a church in this village. And as it turned out, this isn't a church. Not quite sure what it is, but this is the old site for the elementary & junior high school. The sign below says that people have lived in this area since the Yayoi Period (300 BC - 300 AD)

あの農園が黄色い輪の中にあります。大分前から地図を見たとき、これは何かなぁと思いました。That farm is in the yellow circle. Some time back I noticed it on a map and wondered what it was. オレンジ部分があの大変な部分です。ところで、全然まっすぐではなかったですよ。GPSが届かなかったかなぁ。 The orange part is the overgrown part. By the way, it wasn't straight at all. I guess the GPS didn't reach my device there.
