平岩山　Mt. Hiraiwa

今回、平岩山に登りたいです。まだ登ったことがありません。あそこからの眺めが素晴らしいでしょう。
Today I'm going to climb Mt. Hiraiwa. I've never climbed it before. I'd say the view from there would be fantastic.

妙見山と滝上山に何回も行ったことがありますが今日は初めて平岩山に登ります。 I've been to Mt. Myoken (in black) and Mt. Takigami (in orange) multiple times, but never to Mt. Hiraiwa (in red). That's where I'm heading today.

Info about Takigami Park. I'd like to translate it when I get time.

1番目の休憩所 1st rest area

ここから宮津市が見えます。 You can see Miyazu City from here.

4月にここが満開のツツジでものすごく綺麗です。 In April, this place is beautiful as it is covered in azalea flowers.

左の写真に左を曲がって中央登山道で登ります。このダウンヒルを楽しみにしています。 I go left in the photo to the left, and go up the middle (chuo) mountain track. I'm looking forward to this downhill.

2番目の休憩所 2nd rest area

3番目の休憩所 3rd rest area

休憩所があっても私は要りません。この山が上りやすいです。 Even though there are rest areas, I don't need them. This mountain is easy to climb.

上に着くと分岐があります。右は展望台へ、左は平岩山へ。ここから平岩山に初めて行きますので探検です。 Upon reaching the top, there is a branch in the track. Right leads to the lookout and left leads to Mt. Hiraiwa. Since it is the first time for me to go to Mt. Hiraiwa, it's exploration time from here.

木にマシンをロックして、上り始めます。 I lock my machine to a tree and start climbing.

ジョロウグモが多いです。クモの巣を払って上っていきます。 There are lots of these Joro spiders. I clear their webs away as I progress up the track.

このクモが太いです。気持ちが悪いです。This one is really fat. Yuck!

海が見えてきました The sea has come into view

綺麗な昆虫です。ホタルガという昆虫です。 This insect is quite striking. It's called a 'hotaruga' (firefly moth).

黒地に、１本の太い白帯が印象的なガ。頭部は赤く、触角が立派で、何となく悪魔っぽい雰囲気を持つ。
昼間に活動し、林の周辺の薄暗いところをヒラヒラとゆっくり飛ぶ。はねの白帯は、飛んでいてもよく目立つ。低山地に多い普通種。住宅地の周辺で見られることもある。幼虫は、サカキ、ヒサカキの葉を食べる。

This is a translation of the above (by me).

Size: (expanded wings) 45 - 60mm
Time: June / July to September
Distribution: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Okinawa

It's a moth with one striking thick white stripe across it's black back. It's head is red, has splendid antenna, and has a slightly devil-like aura. It's active during the day and flutters slowly around shaded forest areas. It stands out due to it's white stripe. It's a common breed in low mountainous areas and can also be seen around housing areas. It's larvae eats the leaves of the 'sakaki' tree and the 'hisakaki' tree.

ここが平岩山だかな。なんか違うと思います。下から見るともっときついのように見えました。もうちょっと行ってみます。 I wonder if this is Mt. Hiraiwa. It doesn't quite feel right. From below it looked much steeper. I'll go on a little further.

平岩山の山頂からあまり何も見えません。木が邪魔です。山頂に入ったところからこのビューがありましたが。 You can't really see much from the peak. The trees block the view. However, this is the view from where you enter the peak.

あの眺めがいい峰に戻りました。今度、日光がいいです。 I've returned to that peak with a good view. The sun is shinning this time.

ヨットが見えます。宮津高校のヨット部でしょう。

滝上弓ヶ観展望所です。ここから天橋立を弓の字のように見ることができるそうです。 Takigamiyumigakan Lookout. From here it is said that shape of Amanohashidate viewed from this angle looks like the character for bow '弓'
