磯砂山の東 East of Mt. Isanago
今回は京丹後市の磯砂山（いさなご）周辺を探検しました。探検はとても楽しいです。先に何があるかわからないし、道がどこに続いているのかもわかりません。まさにアドベンチャーです。

 チャレンジが二つあります。まずは、この電気柵のゲートを開けること。 There are a couple of challenges. First I have to open this electric fence gate. |  次はこのゲート。こういうタイプは初めてでしたが、どちらのゲートも問題なくクリアしました！ Next is to open this one. It's the first time I've tackled one of these. I manage to solve both gates no problem at all. |

三光鳥（サンコウチョウ） Japanese Paradise Flycatcher
何あれ！こんな鳥、初めて見た！すごくきれい！ What's that! First time I've seen that bird. Beautiful!

鳴き声が「ツキ（月）ヒ（日）ホシ（星）ホイホイホイ」と聞こえることから、三つの光、つまり「三光鳥（サンコウチョウ）」と名づけられました。
Its song sounds like “tsuki (moon), hi (sun), hoshi (star), hoi hoi hoi,” which is why it was named Sankōchō (meaning “bird of three lights”).

林道の突き当たりでお昼ごはんを食べながら、カエルを観察しました。チョウやアリなど、いろいろな虫を食べていて面白かったです。やっぱりカエルはいいですね。虫を食べてくれるから！ I had my lunch at the end of the forest road while watching a frog. It ate all kinds of insects—like butterflies and ants. It was fascinating! Frogs really are great to have around… they eat bugs!

帰り道、野田川の丹海バス車庫の近くでこの鳥を見ました。アオサギは大きな鳥ですが、左の鳥と比べると小さく見えます。左にいるのは何の鳥でしょうか！？ On the way back, I saw this bird near the Nodagawa Tankai Bus Depot. Grey herons are big birds, but next to the one on the left, they look small. What kind of bird is that on the left!?
そうなんです。野田川町にコウノトリがいました。あと一つ山を越えてくれば、うちの前でも見られるかもしれません。その日が楽しみです。 That’s right—there was an Oriental stork in Nodagawa! If it just crosses one more mountain, I might be able to see it right in front of my house. I’m looking forward to that day!
