Today's route - Amanohashidate → Hioki → Shoryu Falls → Mt. Nariai Panorama Lookout → Nariai-ji Temple → Fuchuu
While enjoying spring flowers etc, we rode from Hioki (Miyazu City) to Mt. Nariai Panorama Lookout. From there we saw the stunning views of Amanohashidate, Miyazu Bay, Kunda Peninsula, Wakasa Bay etc. On the way down, we stopped by Nariai-ji Temple

春の花々などを楽しみながら、宮津市日置から成相山パノラマ展望台までマウンテンバイクで走りました。展望台からは、天橋立、宮津湾、栗田半島、若狭湾などの素晴らしい景色を一望できました。下り道では、成相寺にも立ち寄りました。

Friday night, Megane Kappa came around to my house to tell me about a new MTB course he’d found.

Aoraki: You're kidding (while thinking 'impossible')

The next morning, we head off just after 10 a.m. to Mt. Yuragatake which is located on the border of Miyazu City and Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. There was almost nowhere to ride going up from the mountain track entrance and was really hard work, but fun. It basically consisted of pushing, pulling and carrying our bikes. I couldn't help feeling this was the wrong course, but I was glad we'd come. I love doing this kind of thing and enjoy challenging my body. I think it took nearly 3 hours to reach the top. You can ride from the east peak to the west peak so that felt great. The road back down was a forest road suitable for mountain bikes, so we got back to the car quite quickly.
It was hard work but fun. In one word, ' ADVENTURE'.

金曜日の夜、めがねカッパが発見したニューＭＴＢコースの情報を持って私の家に来ました。

次の朝、10時過ぎに京都府宮津市と舞鶴市の境にある由良ヶ岳に出発しました。登りは登山口からほとんどＭＴＢに乗れなかったし、本当に大変でしたが面白かった。ＭＴＢを押したり、引っ張ったり、運んだりばかりでした。コースが間違った気がしたが、来たよかった。こういうことをするのが大好き。体をチャレンジするのは楽しい。頂上まで3時間近くかかったと思う。東峰から西峰まで自転車に乗れるので気持ちがよかったです。帰り道はＭＴＢのためにいい林道だったのですぐ車まで帰りました。
大変でしたが楽しかった。一言で「探検」でした。

It's the Spring Equinox. I have to work from mid-afternoon, but it is Megane Kappa's holiday so it's a good chance to try a new path. So we head off at 10 am. Wow!!! What a beautiful spot we find. Again the mountain water looks crystal clear. We suggest that is why Miyazu's town water supply tastes so good.

春分の日です。私は夕方から仕事ですがめがねカッパにとっては休みです。ですから、山に行って、通ったことがない林道を探検するいいチャンスです。午前10時に出発します。すごい!!! 素晴らし場所発見。前と同じように山水がものすごく綺麗です。やはり、これは宮津市の水道のうまさの理由です。

A little sore from yesterday but changed my car's snow tires this morning and then decided to go cycling around Aso-kai Lagoon. It was a little windy but since the plum blossoms are in full bloom I thought I'd try out my new camera. Also a chance to take some photos of the ducks before they head back to Siberia for the summer.

昨日のイベントによるちょっと筋肉通だけど、今朝、車のスノータイヤを交換して、昼に阿蘇海一周のライドをすることにした。風がちょっと強い日ですが、梅の花が満開だし、もうそろそろ鴨がシベリアに帰っていくでしょう。新しいカメラに慣れるためにそれらの写真を撮ってみたい。

This is my favorite short course in Miyazu. It only takes 5 minutes from my house to get to the entrance point. Kanabiki Waterfall is one of Japan's top 100 waterfalls. It's 40m high and 20m wide. It's a fantastic spot. From above the waterfall the mountain road follows the stream all the way up. It feels great riding along here.
