杉山林道台風18号被害ライド

杉山林道 Sugiyama Forest Road

宮津市内から杉山を見ると土砂崩れが見えません。しかし、台風18号から被害が起こったでしょう。市内にも被害が受けられたそうです。後４０センチで大手川が氾濫したと聞きました。ということは、大雨が後1時間降り続けたら、もう大変なことになりました。雨が弱まった良かったです。さあ！杉山林道のループコースを久しぶりに走りました。どうだったでしょう！
When looking at Sugiyama from in Miyazu City, I can't see any landslides. However, I gather Typhoon No. 18 caused some kind of damage. Apparently there was some damage in the city. I heard that Ote River was only 40 cm away from overflowing. So, if the heavy rain continued for only one more hour, it would have been disastrous. Luckily the rain weakened. Right! I rode the Sugiyama loop course for the first time in a long time. Let's see how it was.

There was some damage to the road on the way up to Oeyama Ski Field.

大江山スキー場に行く途中、土砂崩れが幾つかの場所にありました。

雪が残っています。 Snow still remains on the ground.

えっ！雪！？あれは土嚢です。道路が雨に削られました。 What!? Snow!? Those are sandbags. Ruts have been carved into the road by the rain.

これは何でしょうか What is this?

はい！カマキリでした。

Yes! It was a praying mantis

今の季節にイナゴをよく見ます。しかし、このイナゴがでかかった！いつも見ているイナゴより2倍以上でした。 I often see locusts / grasshoppers at this time of year. But this one was over twice the size of the ones I usually see.

やはり、杉山林道に被害が受けられました。小石が全部流されました。路面のしたにあった大きい石しか残っていません。

As I expected, Sugiyama Forest Road has been damaged. All the small stones have been washed away and only the big rocks that were under the road surface remain.

自転車に乗れません。ずっと、乾燥した河川敷のようです。歩きにくいです。もうヘロヘロに疲れた！　I can't ride my bike on this. It's like a dry river-bed and hard to walk on. I'm worn out already.

MKさん、あそこの尾根に鉄塔が多いですよね。トレイルがあるでしょうか。

MK, there are a lot of power pylons along the ridge over there. I wonder if there is a trail.

杉山林道は絶景だらけ林道です。天橋立が色んな角度から見えます。 Sugiyama Forest Road offers fantastic views like this all along it. You can see Amanohashidate from various angles.

今日はパシフィックビーナスというクルーズ客船が宮津湾にあります。 The Pacific Venus cruise ship is in Miyazu Bay today.

赤岩山登山口のところに土砂崩れがありました。 There is a landslip at the Mt. Akaiwa track entrance.

ここも小さい土砂崩れがありました。MKさんのお気に入りな場所です。 There is a small landslide here too. This is the part MK likes.

すごい！道がありません。その代わりに、大きい岩がいっぱいあります。 Wow! The road has gone. In its place are lots of huge boulders.

ずっとあそこまであります。びっくりしました。 They go all the way down there. That took me by surprise.

岩があそこから来ました。水の力がすごいですよね。あの左にある巨岩の高さが4メートル以上だと思います。あそこの2つの岩のおかげであそこが詰まったようです。よかった！ The boulders came from up in there. There power of water is amazing. I think that big boulder to the left is over 4 meters high. It looks like it was blocked thanks to those two boulders. Just as well!

やはり、ここも被害が受けた。 This part has been damaged too, just like I thought it might have been.

ここに行けば気をつけてください。その上に立つと危険です。 Please be careful if you go here. It would be dangerous to stand on top of that.

そしてあと1分で杉山林道を無事に出ると思ったら

Then just when I was thinking in 1 minute I'd safely come out of the mountains

すごい!!!

WOW!!!

何これ！？通れません。疲れ果てた！戻れません。最悪！ Oh no! I can't get passed this. I'm exhausted! I can't go back. This sucks!

これで京都縦貫道が通行止めでしたかな。 I guess this is the reason why the highway was closed.

真すぐは無理です。 It's impossible to go straight.

あそこしかない。MTBがなくても、大変です。 That's the only way. This would be tough going without my MTB.

なんとなく無事に超えました。 Somehow I got over it safely.

しかし、まだあります。最悪！汗だらけ! But there is more, You've got to be kidding me. The sweat is dripping off me.

やっと出ました。しんどい！ At last I come out on the other side. That was a hard slog!

最後にこの楽しい出会いもありました。かなり長いシマヘビです。 Lastly, I also had this happy encounter. It's a really long Japanese four-lined rat snake.

To wrap things up, Sugiyama is history for the foreseeable future.
I'm pretty close to history too. (lol)
However, It was a fun adventure.
