去年の9月に与謝野町、加悦の「滝の千年椿」に初めて行きました。また咲いている時期に見に行きたいと思って、見に行きました。この辺に林道がいくつかありますのでそれも探検しました。
Last September I went to see 'Taki-no-Sennen-Tsubaki' (1000 Year Old Camellia of Taki), in Kaya, Yosano Town for the first time. I wanted to go again when it was in bloom, and so went to see it. There are also a few forest roads in the area, so did some exploring too.

ドライブの次の部分が牧場がある高原を通ります。この辺の景色が先ほどより大分変りますがここも素晴らしいです。湖やがれ場だらけの山や石灰岩の奇岩地帯が楽しめます。
The next part of our drive is though high country stations. The scenery along this part is completely different to just before, however it is nonetheless spectacular. You can enjoy some lakes, scree covered mountains and peculiar shaped lime-stone rock formations. 

アーサーズ・パース集落を出て素晴らしい景色を楽しみながら、クライストチャーチ方面に向かいます。途中面白い所が沢山あります。 We leave Arthur's Pass Village and head towards Christchurch while enjoying the fantastic scenery. There is lots to see along the way.

熊が冬眠から出てくる季節が参りましたね。ニュージーランドでは熊がいません。だから、日本の山に入るときにはいつも熊に出会ったらどうすればいいかと思っています。出来るだけ情報を得たいです。去年の秋に回覧板にこの情報がありました。特にハイライトしたところが私にとって、新しい情報でした。役に立ている情報だと思います。それはこれです。「それでも近づく場合、帽子や服などを地面に置き注意をそらしてください。」最良のシナリオは熊が私から逃げることですね。熊よけスプレーがほしいですが、日本では非常に値段が高いですね。何ででしょうか。皆さん、熊に出会う前にどうすればいいかしっかり考えましょう。
The season when bears come out of hibernation is upon us. In New Zealand, there aren't any bears. Therefore, I'm always thinking about what I should do if I come across a bear in the mountains of Japan. I want to obtain as much information as possible. I found this info in my community circular last autumn. The part I highlighted was especially new information for me. I think it is very useful information. That is this. 「Even then if the bear continues to approach (after retreating without turning your back on it), put a hat, piece of clothing or the like on the ground and divert it's attention.」 In the best case scenario, the bear will flee from me. I want to get some bear pepper spray, but in Japan it's really expensive. I wonder why. Everybody, let's think carefully about what we will do if we meet a bear, before we meet one.

アーサーズ・パースの東側にアーサーズ・パース(標高740m)という集落があります。ここから20分ほど歩くとデビル・パンチボール・フォールズという素晴らしい滝があります。道路からも見事に見えます。
On the eastern side of Arthur's Pass is a village with the same name, Arthur's Pass(740m above sea-level). If you walk for about 20 minutes from here, there is an impressive waterfall called Devil's Punchbowl. 

クライストチャーチとウェストコーストがアーサーズ・パースでつながっています。アーサーズ・パースが南アルプスにある峠です。ホキティカからクライストチャーチまで3時間ぐらいかかります。しかし、途中に観光所が沢山あります。だから、時間の許す限りあちらこちらを見たいと思います。
Christchurch and the West Coast are connected by Arthur's Pass. Arthur's Pass is a pass over the Southern Alps. It takes about 3 hours to Christchurch, But there are many places to see on the way. So I want to see here and there, as much as time allows.

別荘から牧場に帰りました。「楽しいときは時の経つのが早い」休みがあという間に終わりました。翌日に飛行場に行って、冬に戻ります。 We returned back to the farm from the bach. [Time flies when you're having fun] My holiday is over in no time at all. I will go to the airport tomorrow and return to winter.

久しぶりにめがねカッパさん（MK)と一緒に走ります。また今週も杉山林道を走って、今回どこまで行けるでしょう。
I'm hitting the mountains with Megane Kappa (MK) for the first time in a long time. This week I'm going up Sugiyama again. Wonder how far I'll get this time.

いい写真と動画が沢山撮れて、どれをアップするかなかなか選べません。だから、沢山アップしています。ニュージーランドの美しさを楽しんでください。このトレイルが素晴らしい！！！ニュージーランドが素晴らしい！！！ I took lots of good photos and video and can't decide which to upload. So I'm uploading a lot. Please enjoy New Zealand's beauty. This trail is awesome！！！ New Zealand is awesome！！！

ちょっと疲れました！「道路までもうちょっとかな！」と思ったら山を上りはじめました。うそ～！しかし、絶景ポイントを発見しました。その後楽しいダウンヒルもありました。よかった！よかった！
Just when I was feeling tired and thinking it can't be much further to the road I started climbing up a mountain. "You're kidding!" I thought. But then I found a stunning lookout point and after that could enjoy a fun downhill. So in the end I was glad that small mountain climb was there.
