父が来日 （その１） Dad in Japan (Part 1)

父が10月10日の午前9時に関空に到着しました。車で迎えに行きました。宮津市から関空まで片道がおよそ200㎞です。父が日本でマウンテンバイクをしたいですが、2つ日間ほどン度寝ていなくて、疲れていてしばらくべつのことをします。
Dad arrived in Japan at 9 am on Oct 10th. I went by car to pick him up. It's about 200 km one way to Kansai Airport. Dad wants to do some mountain biking in Japan, but since he had hardly slept for 2 days, is really tired from the flight, so in the mean time, we will do some other things.

和火(やわらび）　Yawarabi

10日(土)の夜に宮津市の和火イベントに行きました。

概要

Overview

宮津寺町を竹やペットボトル、LEDなどの約１万個の手作り灯籠でライトアップ。 郷土芸能や演奏会などの催しを楽しみながら散策し、 市街地の歴史文化に触れていただく市民参加型の手作りイベントです。

About 10,000 homemade lanterns made from bamboo, plastic bottles, LED lights etc light up the temple town of Miyazu. You can enjoy artists performing in the temple grounds while strolling around the area and touch upon the history and culture of the area.

子供達に大ヒットでした。皆ぐるぐる走った。 Kids loved this one. They ran round & round into the center.

週末にワルード・ラグビー・カップの試合が多かったので、ゆっくりして、試合を見ました。 ニュージーランド人だからもちろんラグビーが大好きです。 There were lots of World Cup Rugby games on in the weekend, so we relaxed and watched the games. Off course, being New Zealanders (Kiwis) we love rugby.

日曜日の昼食。広島のカキフライとビール。父はカキが大好きです。 Sunday's lunch. Hiroshima deep fried oysters. Dad loves oysters.

夕食。色んなものを食べさせました。モズクだけだめでした。かぶの漬物が特に美味しかったと言ってくれました。 Dinner. I let him try lots of different things. He didn't like the 'mozuku' much. But he loved the pickled turnip.

赤ちゃん「初土俵入」 Baby Sumo

江戸時代から続く可愛らしい行事
初土俵入は見えない神様と相撲を取る神事です。神様を土俵際まで押し出そうとしますが、押し戻されて赤ちゃんは負けてしまいます。しかし、神様と相撲を取り、神聖な土俵の砂をお尻に付けることで健康を授かるという微笑ましい神事です。

An adorable event that has continued since the early Edo Period (335 years)
The baby battles with an invisible god doing sumo and loses. This is a charming event where the baby receives good health when their buttocks lands on the sacred sand of the sumo ring.

泣く赤ちゃんが多いだけど、鳴かないのもいます。去年、台風で中止されましたので、今年の人数が多かった。300人の幼児が参加したそうです。

Many babies cry, but not all. This event was cancelled last year due to a typhoon. So there were a lot of infants participating this year. I heard about 300 did.

昼にケーズ電気などの店を見に行って、夜に父の家でホームステイした方の家に行って、すき焼きを食べました。ごちそうさまでした。楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。
In the afternoon we went browsing in a big electronics shop, hardware shop and shopping center. Then we went to a person's house who previously had a home stay at dad's place. They treat us to sukiyaki. It was delicious. We had a good time there.

次の日に山にある素晴らしい所に行きました。楽しみにしてください。
The next day we went to an amazing place in the mountains. Please look forward to it.
