杉山の向こう側「探検」

杉山の向こう側 The other side of Mt. Sugiyama

いつも宮津市側から杉山に入って楽しんでいますが杉山の向こう側にいいトレールがあるかどうかずっと知りたかったです。今回、杉山の向こう側を探検します。およそ58㎞のライドになりました。
I always enter Sugiyama from the Miyazu side, but I always wondered if there is a good trail on the other side or  not. So this time I will explore the other side of Sugiyama. It was about a 58 km ride.

大江山スキー場で左を曲がって辛皮に向かいます。 Turned left at Oeyama Ski Field and headed for Karakawa.

「舞鶴市小俣」KTRの鉄橋 [Omata, Maizuru] KTR railway bridge

１１月に元普甲道（もとふこうみち）の毛原峠を越えたとき、ここで山を出ました。 In November, when I went over Kehara Pass on the ancient road, I came out of the mountains here.

最初の谷に入ります I enter the first valley.

これは何でしょう。 Wonder what this is. [Willow Valley] Maybe an ancient Buddhist site.

道が綺麗に整備されています。 The track is well looked after.

いい雰囲気 ！！！ Nice and tranquil!!!

あの階段の上に行って、MTBに戻りました。「不動明王」を読めなかったが今調べて、もうちょっとこの上を探検していたらよかったのになと思います。 I went to the top of those stairs and then returned to my MTB. At the time, I couldn't understand those Chinese characters on the sign, but after looking them up, I wished I'd explored a little more further up the trail.

ウワー！竹が倒れています。MTBを担いで、頑張ってこのゾーンを通って、道が終わってしまいました。隣の谷の林道とつないでほしかったです。しかたがないです。戻ります。 Just what I didn't want to see. Bamboo has fallen across the track. I fight my way to the other side carrying my bike, but the road finishes there. I was hoping this road would connect to the forest road in the neighboring valley. Oh well!!! Nothing to do but go back.

This is a Japanese thatched-roof folk house first built around 1840 in the late Edo Period (1603-1868). You can buy rice flour breads, experience soba noodle making, taste country cooking, and enjoy 'kuraten' exhibitions at the old warehouse

ここで左を曲がって赤岩山の登山口に向かいます。その辺に林道が絶対あります。なぜならグーグル・アースで見ました。 I turn left here and head up towards Mt. Akaiwa's hiking track entrance. There's definitely a forest road up here. I saw it on Google Earth.

色々がありそうです。 Looks like there's a few things up here.

よさそうな場所ですね。自分の家から雲海が見えます。羨ましい！[Saihoji Plateau - Farming and 'sea of clouds' hamlet] Looks great. You can see the 'sea of clouds' (mountains rising above the mist) from your own home there. I'm envious.

大分上ってきました。ここまで綺麗な森を通りました。川と滝等を楽しみながら上ってきました。しかし、しんどい！！！休憩タイム。 I've climbed up a long way. It was a beautiful ride through the forest up to here while enjoying the the river, waterfalls and so on. However, I'm beat!!! Need a rest.

獣が入ってこないように村がフェンスに囲まれているようです。 Looks like the hamlet is surrounded by a fence to keep the wild animals out.

赤岩山 (Mt. Akaiwa) 669m - 宇野ヶ岳 (Mt. Unogadake) 694m - 杉山 (Mt. Sugiyama) 697m

On the peak of Mt. Akaiwa, exposed rocks such as 'Tateri-iwa Rock', 'Moguri-iwa', 'Hasami-iwa Rock', 'Nozoki-iwa Rock', 'Mawari-iwa Rock, 'Tenbo-iwa Rock' & 'Kagami-iwa Rock'  stick up in close proximity.
Under your eyes you can see Kunda Bay & Amanohashidate, and in the distance you can see Cape Etchizen and get a full view of Wakasa Bay National Park. Also, If you look back the other way, words can't describe the magnificence of the view of the 'sea of clouds' in Maizuru, Ayabe, Fukuchiyama and the mountains of Oeyama.

ここからいい眺めですね。ここからの雲海をみたいです。 It's a good view from here. I want to see the 'sea of clouds' from here.

タチアオイ Hollyhock

林道に入りました。門扉を開けて村を出ます。 I've entered the forest road. I open the gate and leave the hamlet.

This gate is a countermeasure against wild animal damage. Please close after passing through.

やっとオフロードを走られます。 At last I can ride off-road

まっすぐに行きたいですが、疲れています。また今度、遠く見えるいい天気の日にまっすぐに行って赤岩を上ります。今回は右に行きます。 I want to go straight, but I'm tired. Next time, on a day with great visibility, I'll come back, go straight and climb Mt. Akaiwa. But this time I go right.

「オオスズメバチ」あのヘリコプターのような音が聞こえると怖くなります。ブンブン！めちゃ怖い！写真を撮りたいですが怖くて怖くて！ドキドキ！数分間じっとして写真を撮ります。 [Japanese giant hornet] It's scary when you hear that noise which sounds like a helicopter. BUZZZZ! It's a little unnerving, but I want a photo. My heart beats faster, but after a few minutes of standing still, I get my photo.

The 'Japanese giant hornet' (oosuzumebachi) is huge. As big as a small thumb. Their sting causes anaphylactic shock in allergic people and can kill even non-allergic people due to the large amount of venom. Being stung multiple times is particularly dangerous. This is the most lethal animal in Japan killing 30 to 40 people a year. You can read about them here. (Snakes kill 5 to 10 people and bears kill 0 to 5 people.)
日本では最も人を殺している動物がオオスズメバチです。毎年オオスズメバチに３０人～４０人が殺されています。（蛇に５人～１０人、熊に０人～５人）

登山道 Hiking track

1700 meters to Mt. Akaiwa summit. 300 meters to the track entrance.

前回、赤岩山に登ったブログエントリーがここです。 The blog entry to the last time I climbed Mt. Akaiwa is here.

先ほどの国有林道がピンク色線に示されています。次回それを走ります。 The state-owned forest road that I just passed is shown by the pink line. Next time I'll ride up there.

この黄色線で隣の谷に行けそうです。その道で下りたいと思います。 It looks like I can go down to the neighboring valley by the yellow line. I want to go down that way.

残念ですが道が急になくなりました。引き返しました。この道で西方寺平に戻ります。 Unfortunately, the road suddenly stopped, I back-track and go along this road back to Saihoji Plateau.

この集会所から登山ができます。バスでもここまで来るらしいです。 You can climb the mountain from this meeting house. It looks like the bus even comes to here.

棚田が素晴らしい所にあります。 These rice fields are in an amazing location.

下見谷からも赤岩山を上ることができます。この谷に下りたかったですが途中に道がなくなりました。めちゃ疲れているので今回谷を入りません。 You can also climb Mt. Akaiwa from Shimomidani Valley. This is the valley I wanted to come down off the mountain into, but the path disappeared. I'm exhausted, so I'll go up here another time.

宮津市に入る所です。おしりが痛くて、足が疲れています。しかし、とても楽しい探検ライドでした。 Entering Miyazu. My backside is sore and my legs are tired. However, I really enjoyed my exploration ride.
