次の日にハイキングをしに行きました。現在、義理の弟は自然保護省のためにニュージーランドの10番目のグレート・ウオークを作る関係の仕事をしています。地元の人たちとのPRの仕事です。このトラックはハイキングとマウンテンバイクのトラックになります。2019年の初めに完成されます。今回、そのトラックの最後の部分を見に行きました。
We went for a hike on the next day. My brother-in-law has a contract with the Department of Conservation (DOC) in connection with the building of New Zealand's 10th Great Walk. This trail will be a dual purpose trail for hiking and mountain biking and will be completed at the beginning of 2019. We went to hike along the last part of the trail.

フーフービートルというノコギリカミキリです。ニュージーランドの固有種です。 A huhu beetle. It is endemic to New Zealand and is a type of longhorn beetle.

妹の庭にいました。昔はマオリ人がフーフーの幼虫を食べました。 It was on my sister's lawn. The Maori used to eat huhu grubs long long ago.

海岸に沿って北のほうに向かいました。 We headed north up the West Coast

岩だらけの海岸です。 It's a rugged coast.

ピクニックをしていた時、アカハシギンカモメが獲物をあさりに来ました。 Red-bill gulls came scavenging when we were having a picnic.

足とくちばしと目の周りが赤色です。 It's legs, beak and rings around the eyes are red.

ポロラリ川トラック Pororari River Track

ポロラリ川トラック　往復６キロ(２時間) Pororari River Track. 6 km (2 hrs) return

ジュラシック・パークみたい！最高！恐竜が出てきそう！しかし、ニュージーランドでは危ない動物がいません。 It's just like Jurassic Park. Spectacular! It looks like a dinosaur will come charging out, but there are no dangerous animals in New Zealand.

歩きやすいトラックです。ずっと川沿いを歩いていきます。 It's a very easy track to walk and follows the river all the way up.

ニュージーランドの木と鳥が楽しめます。 You can enjoy the New Zealand bush and bird life.

咲いているラタの木があります。 There is a rata tree in flower over there.

石階段も、岩のトンネルもあります。実はMTBでこの部分を走ってはいけません。MTBのトレイルはもうちょっと先にあります。 There are also stone steps and a tunnel under boulders. Actually, MTBs won't be allowed to use this part. The MTB track is a little further up.

木に生えている苔がきれいです。大好きです。

The moss in the trees looks cool. I love it.

あそこの峰がDevil's Claw「デビル・クロー」（悪魔の爪）という峰です。スター・ウォーズのジャバのように見えるじゃないか。顔が見えますか。 That peak up there is called Devil's Claw. It looks like Jabba out of Star Wars. Can you see it's face?

スイングブリッジまで行きました。揺れるよ！MTBトレイルもこの橋を渡ります。 We went as far as the swing bridge. The MTB trail will cross this bridge too.

ポロラリ川　Pororari River

英語では(bucket list)「バケットリスト」という表現があります。「死ぬまでにやっておきたいことのリスト」という意味です。今のところで、私の「バケットリスト」に２つのMTBトレイルがあります。それはパパロア・トラックとオルド・ゴースト・ロードです。
At the moment I have 2 mountain bike trails on my bucket list. They are the Paparoa Track and the Old Ghost Road.

これは2019年に完成される予定です。下記の写真は義理弟が撮ったものです。 This is scheduled to be completed in 2019. Below are some photos my brother-in-law took of it.

一番走りたいのはこのオルド・ゴースト・ロードです。 The one I want to do the most is the Old Ghost Road.
