8. カネーリ湖 Lake Kaniere
クリスマスが終わって、近くにあるカネーリ湖に行きました。別荘を借りて、三泊泊まりました。大自然なところです。店が全然ないし、携帯電話を使える場所も少ないです。ここにいる間、毎日マウンテンバイクに乗ったり、ジェットスキーに乗ったり、散歩をしたり、美味しい物を食べたり、寛いだり、しました。
With Christmas finished, we headed up to nearby Lake Kaniere (pronounced 'canary' by the locals). Here we rented a bach (holiday house in NZ) for 3 nights. This place is in the wilderness. There are no shops and few spots where you can use a cell phone. While here, everyday we went mountain biking, jet skiing, took walks, ate delicious food and just relaxed.

「カネーリ湖」最初の日に湖の北西(サニー・バイトというところ)で遊びました。その後、湖の北東にある別荘に行きました。 [Lake Kaniere] On the first day we mucked around on the northwest side of the lake at Sunny Bight. After that, we went to the bach on the northeast side.

ジェットスキーで北東の方に行って静かな入江に入りました。この辺に5ノットの速度期限があります。素晴らしい所です。I headed over to the northeast corner by jet-ski and entered a tranquil cove. The speed limit is 5 knots in here. It's a beautiful spot.

 入江の出口を向かっている図 Heading towards the cove's mouth |  別荘があそこにあります。先日のワルダネス・トレイル・ライドのスタートポイントがあの山の裏にあります。 The bach is over there. Our start point for our Wilderness Trail ride the other day is on the other side of that mountain. |

 サニー・バイトに戻っている図。 Returning to Sunny Bight |  あのトラックが妹の馬トラックです。普通にトラックの後ろに馬を乗せるが、今回MTB等の荷物を載せました。トラックの真ん中に台所、ベッド、テレビ等があります。上に衛星アンテナが見えます。この日に湖で遊びながら、国際クリケット試合もテレビで見ました。 That truck is my sister's family's horse truck. Usually horses are loaded into the back, but this time we loaded mountain bikes and other stuff. In the middle of the truck is a kitchen, bed, TV, etc. You can see the satellite dish on the roof. While enjoying our time at the lake, we also kept an eye on the cricket test. |
カヒカテア・散策路 Kahikatea Walk

すてき！！！亜麻が沢山あります。ニュージーランドらしいシーンです。 It's really nice here！！！There is a lot of flax. A typical New Zealand scene.

 これはカヒキテアという木です。ニュージーランドの最も高い木です。樹高が60メートルまでで、この森のカヒカテアの樹齢が約500年です。This is a Kahikatea, New Zealand's tallest tree, growing up to 60 meters. The Kahikatea in this forest are about 500 years old |  カヒカテアがダイナソー(恐竜)木も呼ばれています。なぜなら、ジュラ紀に恐竜と一緒に存在しました。 Kahikatea are also called dinosaur trees, as they existed during the Jurassic Period with the dinosaurs. |

 これはリムの木です。リムの木材が美しい色で、貴重です。リムの木は枝ぶりが好いです。 国連ビルの中にもニュージーランドからのリム・パネル壁があります。樹高が20メートルから60メートルまでです。This is a Rimu. |  Rimu is a very valuable and beautiful colored timber. There is even a rimu panel wall in the UN building. It's an elegant looking tree. |
いい道です。 It's a well made path.
10分かかる600メートルの散策路と書いてあったが、見るものが多くて、もっとゆっくり楽しみました。本当に気持ちがよかったです。 Even thought it said it was a 10 minute, 600 meter walk, there is so much to see that I took my time and enjoyed it. An amazing little walk.
