21. レイク・ペーソンとケーブ・ストリーム Lake Pearson & Cave Stream
ドライブの次の部分が牧場がある高原を通ります。この辺の景色が先ほどより大分変りますがここも素晴らしいです。湖やがれ場だらけの山や石灰岩の奇岩地帯が楽しめます。
The next part of our drive is though high country stations. The scenery along this part is completely different to just before, however it is nonetheless spectacular. You can enjoy some lakes, scree covered mountains and peculiar shaped lime-stone rock formations.

素晴らしい景色です。 冬も綺麗でしょう。 Amazing scenery. No doubt winter is beautiful too.

昔はマオリ人がこの湖畔にキャンプして、食料採集と狩猟をしました。
カンムリカイツブリ (サザン・クレステッド・グリーブ)。私はこの鳥を見たことがないと思います。面白そうで、みたいですね。しかし、ニュージーランドではおよそ250羽しか残っていません。 I've never seen one of these. Interesting looking bird and I wouldn't mind seeing one.

ここはもっともっと(1857年から)メリノ羊の牧場でした。
トーレッス山脈。この尾根がすごいですね。Torlesse Range. This ridge is amazing.
ケーブ・ストリーム景観保護区
「you are here」が載ってある場所が現在位置です。この道路(国道73号)を左から右へ走っています。 You can see where we are by the [you are here] mark. We are traveling along this road (SH73) from left to right.
ケーブ・ストリーム景観保護区の案内図。散歩だけで非常に面白い場所ですが洞窟もあります。右側の「Cave entrance」に洞窟に入って、左側の「Cave exit」に洞窟を出ます。 Map of Cave Stream Scenic Reserve. It's really interesting just wandering around here, but there is also a cave. You enter the cave on the right-hand-side as indicated on the map, and come out on the left-hand-side.

昔のマオリ人がここを通ったときに岩の下に避難して、石灰岩の壁に絵を描きました。
岩絵が壊れやすいですので、一般人が見に行けません。

向こうの山の麓が「ナルニア国物語/第1章: ライオンと魔女」という映画の最後の戦いのロケ地です。 The dramatic final battle of the movie 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' was filmed at the base of that mountain in the distance.

洞窟探検の説明
洞窟に入る前にちゃんと準備をしましょう。
滝がいくつかあります。最後の滝の高さが3メートルです。面白そう！！！行きたいですが、飛行場に向かっています。時間がありません。 It looks interesting！！！I want to go through the cave, but I have no time as I'm heading to the airport.
水が冷たいし、洞窟が暗いです。上流を上ったほうが安全です。
